Now that we have our characters it’s time to create the world they live in.

A character’s world doesn’t need to be a whole new planet, it can be anywhere. If your character is a bug, maybe their whole world is a plant in someone’s garden, but if they are an intergalactic police platypus their world could be the whole (un)known universe. Here are some things that might be fun to think about when you imagine your world:

  • What is it? A place on Earth? A completely new planet? The sewers of your town? The ocean? A piece of mouldy bread?

  • When is it? Now? In the past? In the future? Can your characters chat on mobile phones or do they have to use carrier pigeons?

  • How does stuff work in your world? Is there gravity? Are the oceans made of slime? Does a day last 10 minutes only?

  • Who else lives there? Who are the people (and animals or even things) that your characters spend time with?

Once you have thought about all this you’ll be able to start populating your world with all sorts of things, landmarks, buildings, jungles, mountains, etc. A great way to bring it all together is to draw a map of your world and fill it with all the amazing stuff you created. I decided to stick with Fluffius Maximus as my main character, so I created a map showing the world of Foodonia, you can see it on the top of this page.

Tom decided to create characters called Body Blips, little guys that live inside people’s bodies and power everything a person does. To create his world he stuck lots of pieces of paper together, traced his own body and drew the little guys inside! Here’s what it looks like.

The characters everyone has been creating are super amazing! Keep sending them to tibolota@gmail.com (or posting them on social media) and they’ll appear on our gallery over here.
